Who says macaroni and cheese has to be boring?

"Orange Macro Macaroni" and Cheese by D Sharon Pruitt

Yesterday, my friends and I went to a small restaurant in Monroe, Connecticut called Mac Daddy’s. If you live in the CT area, I highly recommend checking it out. Here’s what it’s like:

The entire menu–other than cookies and potato chips– is only macaroni and cheese. However, that doesn’t mean there’s no selection. For the little kid in you, you can get mac n cheese mixed with hot dogs. If you want an adult twist on the child favorite, try it mixed with spinach, mushrooms, onions, or even lobster. Really, this place is ingenious.

It was my second time there, and I opted to get the same option as last time, the pulled pork mac n cheese. My friend, who’s tried about six of their flavors, said this was probably the best one so far, and I love it–a perfect blend of BBQ sauce, cheese, meat, and noodles.

I mean, mac and cheese is awesome anyway. Most kids love it, and even if they won’t eat anything else, you can always rely on this staple. College kids eat it because it’s quick and delicious. In fact, whenever I had to go to a potluck dinner, I usually prepared this dish, because it’s so yummy and so easy!

But then you add in some crazy ingredients, creative combos, cute names such as “Mac Gobble Gobble”, and you’ve got a great business idea. Yes, the instant Kraft stuff is cheap and easy, and these prices range from $5 to $13 for a small–but it’s worth it. Great novelty idea, and good to return to try other flavors. And don’t let the small “snack size” fool you. It’s enough…and comes out actually in the pan for you to eat right away. mmmm.

Pancakes

Nothing like chocolate chip banana pancakes to start off the morning!

Sunday morning was wonderful. My friend came over and delighted my roommates and I with some delicious chocolate chip pancakes. She found some pancake  mix, chocolate chips, bananas, and made them one by one in a pan…until there was enough for us all to split.  They were delicious!

Pancakes are pretty easy to make, but were you to go out to eat, may I recommend but of course IHOP‘s pancakes. IHOP is the International House of Pancakes, after all. Some of my favorites…well chocolate chip of course. BUT even better? Chocolate Chip pancakes with CHOCOLATE BATTER. If that’s not enough of a sweet tooth for you, try the New York Cheesecake pancakes–literally pancakes infused with cheesecake. I’ve had them once. Honestly they’re good to say that you tried them, but a little too sweet & rich for my taste. For something mildly healthier, the harvest grain and nut pancakes are pretty delicious, too. :)

hmm… now if it only rained pancakes…

(Haven’t seen the movie yet. But that was one of my favorite kids books when I was little).

Gummy Bears… Covered in Chocolate?

Almost too cute to eat...but also too tasty to not eat.

Clearly I have a sweet tooth, so when a roommate offered me these yummy treats I couldn’t resist.  I’m pretty sure eating these made my day.

Gummy bears are so freaking cute! Am I the only weird one that pretends the bears are alive and makes them walk around and talk? And then of course I eat them… nom nom.

Regular gummy bears come in pretty colors and are deliciously chewy and sweet. The chocolate coating adds an interesting variety by blending two of my favorite things together.  If you are in the Rhode Island area, you can find these chocolate covered gummy bears at Goodies by the Sea.

Cookie Cake…mmmm

So it was my roommate’s 21st birthday yesterday, and two of my friends baked a very yummy cake…but it wasn’t just any ordinary cake.

Cake+cookie+chocolate+Hershey's= yum.

This was a cookie cake–baked in a cake pan and then coated with chocolate frosting and caramel Hershey’s Kisses… aka DELICIOUS! Although I wouldn’t recommend eating too much of this cake at once, it  provides some variety from the traditional birthday treats–and can be made for any occasion. “It’s not too hard to make,” says JS, who prepared the cake. “It’s easier than making actual cookies because all you do is squish the batter into the same pan.”

If you are interested in making a cookie cake for yourself, here is the link to the recipe:
